Dear St. Joseph Families,

While we are still celebrating a lot of fun activities with St. Valentine’s, Grandparents Day, Book Fair, and the Krewe of Carpenter Parade, remember that Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. This begins on February 22nd. It is a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. We will observe the traditional and important symbols such as wearing of ashes that day, meatless Friday’s, and weekly stations.

Something we can always consider is taking on something else. While parents have the responsibility to getting their child to Mass, it is beneficial for students themselves to consider doing something extra or giving something up. For instance, it is always good to consider the needs of others. One matter we will address this year is providing food to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. This will go on all Lent.

Some families may consider extra activities such as making it to Mass EVERY Sunday, going to the Stations of the Cross on Friday’s in the church and sending your 6th-12th graders to youth group on Sunday’s. Let us all strive to grow in holiness during this time prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Have a blessed week! St. Joseph, pray for us.
