Dear SJS Families,

When I first moved to Shreveport, I was hoping I had finally lived in a location where hurricanes would not impact me anymore. Alexandria is only 2 hours south but has been hit hard in the past by such weather like Hurricanes Rita, Gustav, and even last year with Laura.

During last year’s hurricane that reached all the way to Shreveport, we welcomed several new faces to our SJS community. Imagine staying in a spare bedroom on an air mattress, not knowing how your home looks, but you need to find a place that could assist you in educating and caring for your children. Luckily, St. Joseph Catholic School was able to meet such needs and we anticipate needing to do the same this year.

While we have our doors open to displaced families, we will begin taking additional action very soon. Fr. Long has asked to wait for guidance from Bishop Malone just in case there is a form of relief effort that is requested from other diocese. In the meantime, please keep all displaced families in prayer.

I encourage each of you to contribute to this important cause. Going through last year’s winter storm, we experienced difficult times and relied on assistance from others. As we focus on the virtue of charity, let us display this virtue by responding to those with such important needs. As principal, I say thank you in advance for responding to this call to action.
