Dear St. Joseph Families,

Last week’s letter was about finding time to engage in reading with your child. I strongly encourage this every evening. While the encouragement is still for reading, have you taken time to each month to read Page 2 of the Falcon News? Each week, our 2nd page focuses on the virtue of the month. I strongly encourage you to begin the practice if you have fallen out of the practice or have not started the practice.

We all want our children to be the best version of themselves. The best version would be one that strives to practice virtue each and every day. What does it mean to practice virtue? It’s simply choosing to do the good. For kids who attend school in a Christ-centered environment, we all seem to expect this from our children- and you should! Still, virtue is not something that is simply taught and understood. It is practiced. It is something we are formed in. It is something we strive for each day. If not, we may choose to live a life of vice. I can’t imagine any parent choosing this for his or her children. So how do we practice virtue? Each month, St. Joseph has a virtue we wish to focus on. In helping with this practice, we accompany the virtue with a saint- someone who has mastered the virtue and who is truly a role model for us to follow. This is not a model of absolute perfection. Rather, the saint is the person who sets an example to live a life more centered on Christ.

When the newsletter comes out each week, bring it up in discussion with your children. Maybe you can do this in one-on-one discussion when doing homework or having a casual conversation about it at the supper table. It is another opportunity to communicate with your young ones while they are still young. Have a great week! St. Joseph, pray for us.
