Dear St. Joseph Families,
It is the end of the 9 weeks! Well, it will be on Thursday. On Monday morning, I met with our students in the gym to discuss finishing strong. We happen to dovetail with our virtue for the month of October- Responsibility. A school-age child’s chief responsibility is to be as good a student as possible. In this final week of the nine weeks, students should feel a strong sense of responsibility to study hard for these exams, to submit all homework and classwork, and to communicate with teachers to identify areas for improvement for the second nine weeks.
As parents, we undoubtedly make it our responsibility to hold our children accountable for studying and submitting their work on time. Let us also fulfill our responsibility in helping them out in other ways. While it may not be apples to apples with an adult life of bills, cooking, and running the afternoon gauntlet to practices all over town, it is still a high level of responsibility for them. Let us strive to listen to them and see how we can assist them in their efforts.
At times, a student may feel uncomfortable saying in class, “I don’t understand.” They may not feel they can communicate openly when something is bothering them. This is where we, as adults, should provide an encouraging word and a listening ear. After the 9 weeks are over, review matters with your child and see if there’s a way we as a school can better assist some of these needs. St. Joseph, pray for us.
