Dear St. Joseph Families,

It is my hope that our students finish strong at the end of the 9 weeks grading period. To this point, it is also a time to take inventory of student progress. While we do not have parent-teacher conferences on the calendar this year, initiating communication with your child’s teacher is not a bad thing. I know that some teachers will do their best to communicate with you when they see concerns. I am aware that many parents and teachers have already gotten ahead of the game and worked out a new game plan for going forward.

Something to keep in mind as a parent, have a conversation with your child about accountability. I had a conversation with one of my own children regarding accountability to academics. As a student, this is always a top priority. Yes, I believe in life balance, but to do well in school is primary (just below living a life worthy of heaven). The conversation usually begins with the child having a high C instead of a B, or having a B instead of an A. Sure, I will always accept my child’s best effort, but we reflect on the week prior that led to certain grades and whether or not this is the child’s best effort. It is critical for them to focus on one question- How good do you want to be? Quality results require effort and sacrifice. It may require letting a teacher know that they need extra help or more clarification. It may require less screen time. Better output comes about through better input. Let’s press on for a great week! St. Joseph, pray for us.
