Dear St. Joseph Families,

There is nothing that brings about greater frustration for a parent than school not being in-person on days when it should be. There is not a good educator alive who would prefer to stay home on such days. Please know that we all feel the same on this matter. Decisions do not occur simply at a local level. The diocese received guidance from local officials, including homeland security, the city council, and the office of the mayor. Many of us watched the press conference online and saw that the advice was given as the best guess of what to expect. Decisions will be made day-to-day and as soon as humanly possible. Families sometimes post and email about what is happening. If you do not get a school-wide email or text, it can be assumed that a decision has not been made at that time.

Our virtual learning day is set up in a manner so as not bombard our families- especially those with multiple children in the home- with too much work and to require multiple devices to video conference at once. Assignments are due each day by 10 PM in the manner in which a teacher has communicated with families. Teachers have specific office hours in the morning because that is likely the busiest time for families to get assignments started and have questions answered early in the day. Of course, reaching out to teachers during a normal school day is possible, but the office hours will be most helpful.

We are hopeful that we can get back to our normal routine this week, but a decision will be communicated each day. Let us all navigate this week together and get to a restful spring break. St. Joseph, pray for us.
