Dear St. Joseph Catholic School Families,
WE ARE BUYING A HOUSE! No, not for a new K-Village classroom or anything like that. Rather, Food for the Poor gave a presentation at St. Joseph Catholic Church in January. We discerned that this would be a wonderful way to give alms. Providing shelter for the homeless is a very important corporal work of mercy that our students learn about.
I know we might be thinking, “How can we afford a house?” The cost of the home for the family will be $4,900. It is being built for a family in a developing country. Our donation will be matched by another anonymous donor who wishes to increase the total gift. Additionally, a plaque will be mounted at the home stating that it was built through the kindness of the St. Joseph Catholic School community. If every student donated $16.90, we would meet our goal. Funds will be collected during the entire season of Lent. Anything extra that we bring in will be donated for food and water for the same community, and these are also works of mercy we strive to teach your children.
Lent is a time of giving of one’s self in order to find greater union with God and of greater discipline to follow the ways of Christ more closely. All during Lent, I encourage you to find different ways of praying with your child. One such way would be by attending the Stations of the Cross that are held after school Masses as well as on Friday evenings throughout Lent at 5:30 PM in the church. May St. Joseph guide us through this holy season to the Risen Lord, Jesus Christ.
