Joy. This is the week of Advent we all wait for. Every little kid is excited to see that we light the pink candle. Isn’t it amazing that such a tiny gesture in our liturgy can bring about such joy? I assume this is an unintended purpose, but it aligns with this week’s gift.
Joy is a gift that comes to us when we know that Christ loves us completely. We should be so overcome with joy that is shared with others in our family, in our church, and in our community. I pray that this week we share that gift of joy with one another throughout our school. We are about to embark on a two-week and one-day holiday. Before then, let us reflect on the joy this community brings.
First, know that your child’s teacher desires that your child experience the joys of learning in his or her classroom. Your child deserves more than just a feeling of happiness. They should know a sense of joy because their teacher has educated them to grow in knowledge, wisdom, and understanding, not simply because it is what their teacher was hired to do. Instead, it is because they desire this for your child. Seeing a child grow in this way, in turn, brings the teacher joy and affirms their calling to Catholic education.
We have several activities this week that will remind us of the gift of joy found in Christ. Whether it is our Christmas Program, Polar Express Day, or providing gifts for those in need, I pray that these moments reflect the joy that is found in Christ alone. St. Joseph, pray for us.
