Dear St. Joseph Families,
They say that this time between the Thanksgiving and Christmas are quite the holiday grind. In between our visits with our families, shopping, dinners, parties, we feel anxious and stressed because there is so much to do and so little time to do it in. In the midst of all of this, we are expected to keep up with life as usual. Life as usual should never become a secondary matter. It is in the average day-to-day life of the family that we can find the reasons to celebrate these holidays. Maybe that is why the season of Advent was created.
Truth be told, our top priorities should remain focusing on the four reflections of Advent- hope, peace, joy, and love. If what we are doing, does not lead us to live out virtues in such a manner, we should really discern why we are being so consumed by them. It may be time to reflect on what is truly the priority. To that point, children are the ones who become most distracted by the holiday season. Christmas will come. Family will be there. Still, take time to focus on the priorities of the day-to-day. We will soon be approaching the end of the nine weeks. Did a project turn out poorly due to a tacky sweater party? Did grades slip due to out-of-town shopping trips? Remind the kiddos to slow down.
Advent is a journey. Think of ways to keep the focus on what we are called to do rather than what is fun or what we might miss out on. Let us serve Christ our king.
St. Joseph, pray for us.
