Dear St. Joseph Families,
While I want to send a farewell message to all of our families to wish you all a farewell for the summer, I know we will see you at the pool, the parks, at Mass, and at camps. I’d like to take a moment to communicate with you about some very, very important legislation in the Louisiana House and Senate.
There currently exists a bill known as Louisiana Scholarship ESA Bill. What the bill is designed to do is to allow for funds designated for each child for an education to be utilized annually at the school to which the child wishes to attend. This means that, eventually, every student with an education savings account (and the hope is that will eventually be every single public and private school student in the state of Louisiana) will be able to utilize the funds for their school. This means that funds can be utilized towards tuition dollars. Additionally, the bill will allow for all schools, public or private, to maintain their admissions practices currently in place. St. Joseph Catholic School is in line with all Brumfield-Dodd non-discriminatory policies.
What is needed at this time is for our governor as well our state senators to hear from you, families of St. Joseph Catholic School, to communicate how important this piece of legislation is. It can be found online and referenced as LA House Bill 745. https://legis.la.gov/legis/BillInfo.aspx?i=246758 This will not only benefit the families of St. Joseph Catholic School, but for all families in Louisiana who wish to benefit from school choice. It has a phase-in program, beginning with families who may have a greater financial concern. It will then phase in over time, every family in the state. To have this bill passed, let your governor and senators know how important the bill is to your family. St. Joseph, pray for us.
